The problem with weekends is that your internal clock is still on the work day time line.
Unless I am sick, I usually wake up between 6Am and 7Am, seven days a week.
Not fair!
Some weekends I feel lazy and just want to sleep for an extra hour.
That never works.
For the most part I wake up at my regular time.
Today was no exception. I was awake shortly after 6Am but wasn't ready to get out of bed right away. I fluffed my pillow, changed position and closed my eyes.....for about 3 minutes, then opened them knowing I was not going to back to sleep. Hmmm........ I didn't want to get up. I was toasty warm under my blanket and the room was icy cold (furnace turned way down and window open a crack year round) and it wasn't completely light outside so my room was still fairly dark. Mind you, having blinds that are designed to keep out daylight helps too. Anyway, I had the perfect conditions for sleeping except that I was wide awake. What's a girl to do? I was too lazy to turn on the light and grab a book to read. I didn't want to turn on the radio for fear of waking up Hubby John, next door, who had finally stopped coughing and was getting some much needed sleep, and I was feeling too darn lazy to crawl out of my toasty warm bed and officially start my day. Sigh.... But then I heard it.....a tiny little squeak....Baby Cat Oscar.....where was he? Lifting my head without letting cold air get under the blankets, I could just make out his chubby outline at the very bottom end of the bed. Using my best coaxing voice and keeping it to a whisper I called him. "Hey Baby Cat....come see mom!" There was no answer. Hmmm, maybe he was more asleep than I thought. Speaking a bit louder, in order to wake him up, I called out, "Oscar, come here, come on Baby Cat, come see mom." Still no response. I was thinking how nice it must be nice to be able to sleep like the dead. And then I thought... "Oh, no! Maybe he's not sleeping....maybe something has happened to him. Maybe he is sick or.... dead. Eww....not on the bed Baby Cat! So I called loudly this time..."Oscar...come on...come see mom....Baby Cat come here....come see mom... Baby Cat wake up.....NOW! There was no movement from the bottom of the bed so I sat up to crawl down to check him out when I heard it...........the sound of Velcro being ripped open...coming from the hall way.....along with the noise of a cat complaining about being disturbed. That would be Baby Cat Oscar walking up the stairs while complaining that his food dish has not been filled yet. Hmmm.......if Baby Cat is not in my room, then what the heck is on the end of my bed? Dhuh......turns out it was one of my round log pillows.......silly me. I need to start taking my glasses upstairs at night so I can see what I am doing in the morning. Baby Cat Oscar came into my room complaining and sounding like Velcro (his nails will be trimmed today) and crawled up onto the bed and laid down beside me for his morning pets and scratches. I scratched behind his ears, rubbed his belly and, with him purring loudly in my ear, told him all about my day coming up. It was nothing special, just another normal morning, well maybe a bit different with that extra pillow talk.

Lazy Day
Today was an extremely lazy day for me. I got up at 8:00 this morning and after doing the usual bathroom stuff (I was going to say crap but somehow that just sounds wrong doesn't it?) and putting on a load of laundry, I made my cup of tea and settled down in my front room with the sun shining in, to read my book. I really wanted a bologna sandwich for breakfast so I had one. Not toasted, whole wheat bread, (although I prefer white with bologna) with a little butter, lots of yellow mustard and some really good bologna. It can't be no name brand....nope....it has to be J.M. Schneider's Blue Ribbon Bologna...it is the absolute best there is! Now I know some people might think a bologna sandwich is a weird thing for breakfast but I know people who eat leftover pizza for breakfast. And they eat it cold. Now THAT'S weird!!! Anyway, I digress. So I got my sandwich, my hot cup of tea, my Baby Cat Oscar keeping my feet warm and the book I am reading which is the third in this particular series "A song Of Ice and Fire" by George R.R. Martin. It happens to be a good series, a fiction with knights, kings, damsels in distress, dragons, good guys and bad guys. I'm enjoying it very much as is Hubby John, who is on the first book of the series. So there I am, reading in the sunshine with Baby Cat Oscar snoring away while keeping my feet warm and I finish my yummy bologna sandwich and my hot cup of tea and the next thing I know my book has fallen on the floor. Hmmmm........maybe I need to go take a nap. After all it is 9:30 and I have been up for over an hour now. So off Baby Cat and I go to crawl back into bed for a little snooze. At 10:30 I hear Hubby John moving around and at 11:00 I finally haul my lazy ass bones out of bed.....again. I had a shower hoping it would wake me up, drank another cup of hot tea, and decided it was lunch time and had a toasted bacon and tomato sandwich for lunch. Then off to the mall to buy a graduation gift for daughter Jaime who graduates from University on Wednesday with her teaching degree. I knew exactly what I wanted to get her. Just the perfect shopping trip. No muss....no fuss...just in and out....wham bam....thank you mam...you have a nice day too! Home to HJ who hadn't moved very much while I was gone. It was time for a cold root-beer, a Turkish Delight bar and another few pages of my book. I should have wrapped the gift but I will do it tomorrow as I have Monday off. Today I was just too lazy and tired. At 3:00 I laid down for a half hour power nap and then got up and went outside to weed my front garden. Is it still called a garden when you have flowering bushes only? I suppose so because what else would you call it? So there I was with my hand spade, a pail for weeds and my handy dandy clippers which I would never be without.
Now don't get me wrong. I love gardens. But I hate gardening. When you buy a bush for the garden they should have to tell you that 4 foot long thorns will eventually grow from the plant. Nooooo.......they only go on and on about the beautiful cascading red blossoms that will transform your garden from a ugly piece of land to a showcase area of your home. Yeah.....right.....
Truth be told they were right. It does look nice when it flowers. But when you need to weed around it you have to wear chain mail to keep from looking like you had a fight with the neighbourhood tom cat. Man, I have scratches everywhere....my arms, my legs, my face and even on my knees. Note to myself: pull that damn bush out this fall. However, I persevered and now the front garden is ready to have mulch put on it and the neighbours no longer have to shudder every time they look out their front windows. Around 7:00 pm after I got everything out front cleaned up and put away, I made a quick dash to the store for some tomatoes and tortilla chips. Twenty minutes later I got to sit down to a lovely taco salad that Hubby John made for supper. That salad is listed as one of my favourite meals. I made a Sauce N' Cake mix up for dessert and it baked while I did dishes. Mmmmmmmm......perfect end to a perfect meal.
So all in all it was a very lazy day and I enjoyed every minute of it.....except for that stupid woman eating bush which I can guarantee you will not be there next spring.

This is....How I Spent My Weekend

The actual theme for this weeks, "THIS IS" post, is...How I spend my weekends. Thanks to Bird Bath for this good choice. As you can see by my title, I have adapted it to a specific time period.
We entertain quite a bit. Hubby John and I don't have a whole lot of weekends free. We try to keep Sundays as a do nothing day. Friday nights and Saturdays are usually busy, busy, busy. Anyways, This is....How I spent this weekend. Friday night we attended a Benefit for Benjamin. It was an amazing fundraiser, with 500 or so people, a silent auction, raffles, food and drinks....a great evening and lots of money raised. Saturday we hosted a mini fiesta reunion of friends and family who attended(or would have if they could have) Jaime & Mikes wedding in Mexico. Mike and my cutie-patootie Neve are shown in this photo. Sun, Sun, Sun, the weather was PERFECT!!! The music played for the day was a variety mix of Electronic, Mexican, Irish and a little bit of everything else. What a great time everyone had. We spent the afternoon eating appetizers and munchies. The swimming pool and wet bar were both open. We had a yummy pot-luck BBQ dinner with delicious desserts afterwards. The evening found most of us sitting on the back deck enjoying more conversation and after dinner drinks, both hot and cold. It was a perfect evening with a huge, beautiful full moon watching over us all. It was a FUN, FUN, FUN party. Sunday morning came way too fast for my liking. I did not want to get out of my comfy bed so I slept in. Eventually we got up late Sunday morning and spent it cleaning up. A special THANK YOU to JAIME for coming over to help with that. Other family members dropped in for quick car pick ups and for October fundraiser donation drop-offs. They stayed long enough for some quick conversation and then were soon off and on their way. After cleaning was done, it was over to Jaime and Mikes place to drop off a car, a patio set, and stuff from the fiesta. We then went and picked up Neve for the afternoon. She was quite happy to float in her personal pool, aka the hot tub (don't worry, the heat is turned way down for her) and later to play with her dollies, outside kitchen, her sand box and her pedal car that no longer has pedals. It was a very lazy afternoon . Leftovers were eaten for supper. Neve played some more outside and then, on our way over to drop her off to her mommy and daddy, we made a quick stop at the Dairy Queen. Neve and her papa shared a hot fudge sundae with pineapple and pecans and I had a strawberry sundae. After we dropped her off, daddy John Vincent, followed us back to our place and we helped him unload a van full of boxes that he and Sarah are storing temporarily at our house. He left and I put a load of towels in the washer while Hubby John sat down to watch some of the Olympic goings on. I went on-line to do this blog, check my email and visit a few favourite sites. Now I am signing off and going to bed. This is how I spent my weekend.

Days when you just want to say. "It was a good one!"

Sunday is one of my favourite days.
Lazy, lazy, lazy,
do nothing
or something
or nothing,
munch, munch, munch,
and then munch some more,
don't answer the phone,
until you hear who's calling,
and then answer or not,
read a good book, or not,
watch a good movie, or not
snooze, snooze snooze,
wake up and punch the cushion
into a more comfortable shape,
and then snooze some more,
think of doing something,
then don't,
think of doing some more,
and still don't,
eating chocolate.....in any form,
or not.....
drinking hot tea....in any form,
or not.....
just thoroughly doing whatever you want to....
or not.
This is how I usually spend my Sundays......
Today, however, was extra special because I got to spend
some of it with my wonderful hubby and 2 very special girls in our lives.
One birth daughter, Jaime and one choice daughter, Jen.
Look at the picture of them both at Jaime's wedding in Mexico, 2007.
You'll understand why we are so proud of them both and love
to spend time with them whenever we can.
We brunched together and talked, and talked and talked.
Jaime lives 10 minutes away, Jen lives an ocean away.
We don't see Jen often enough and when she is here her
birth family has the nerve to want to spend time with her,
as do her other friends.
Alas, we don't get to hog her to ourselves.
So she is always rushing here and there and everywhere.
We take whatever time we can get and enjoy it.
Maybe if we are lucky we will see her before she goes back
to the ocean and her ship sails on.
Jen, we love you....stay safe.
Your other mom and dad.
