Don't take out the garbage when you are tired!

In the mornings while getting ready for work I tend to multitask. While brushing my teeth I am usually putting on a load of wash. While getting my lunch ready I will be filling the sink with water to soak any stray dishes that were used between supper and breakfast. These I will wash up and leave on the drain tray to air dry, just before I go out the door. While getting dressed, which I do in the basement.....don't ask!....I will feed the kitties and change their litter boxes. I pick up yesterdays paper and put it in the recycling bag, and will collect any pop cans and put them in the recycling bin. I do odds and ends that I see that need to be done because at my age I am now in the mindset of "do it while you think of it or you will forget and it won't get done." Normally I can do all of this with never a problem.
This past Friday morning while getting ready for work, I was really, really, really tired. It had been a very long week at work and I had put a lot of extra hours in. Friday is garbage day and I wanted to make sure the litter boxes were cleaned. The garbage in the kitchen needed to be changed and as usual there were a few dishes to be washed. The house was (and still is) in a mess and uproar because I am working on a bunch of gift baskets for raffle draws for the upcoming benefit dance. There are donated prizes, boxes, bags and my craft stuff everywhere in the kitchen and living room. Anyway as I said, I was really, really tired. So it is no surprise that in my tired haze I accidentally put a bag full of items that I had just bought the night before for use in gift baskets, into the big green garbage bag to was going out for pickup. I did not discover my stupid mistake until after I had gotten home at noon. Of course on any other Friday the garbage would not have been picked up until late afternoon but that day the garbage was long gone shortly after ten in the morning. Murphy's Law, once again, triumphs!
I have searched the house over and over this past weekend hoping against hope that I had maybe set that particular bag down somewhere else.
Nope....it is definitely not there. It is gone, vamoosed!
Lesson learned?
Don't take out the garbage when you are tired!

Oh no- I hate it when that kind of thing happens- I try to multi-task, too but every so often I'm sorry I wasn't paying more attention.

Oh, Lois! How maddening that must have been. Well, at least you didn't accidentally put the kitty litter in the gift bags...just trying to find the bright side for you. :)

Now that just plain stinks, Lois.

I have been telling myself to "SLOW DOWN" a lot lately - my husband informed me I'm too "rammy" so I'm trying to take his advice and not rush around trying to do 10 things at once anymore. And you know what? It works! My tendency to bump my head, bruise my shins/elbow/toes and forget half the things I want to do when I'm rushing around has significantly diminished. I think it's good for my blood pressure too. (0;

Thank you ladies for the sympathy and the advise.
I am trying to slow down and not do
more than one thing at a time.
It's harder to do than it sounds
though. Oh well, I will just keep trying!

That is a real bummer! It is one of those stories you can look back on and tell and it will be quite funny....
