Thursdays Boring? I Think Not!

No matter what kind of week I am having I always look forward to Thursdays. Some people think Thursdays are a boring day. I don't believe that and here are just a few reasons why.

Thursday is the day you start the downhill slide to the weekend. That thought alone should make you smile.

Thursday means that you only have two sleeps until Saturday.

Thursday, for me, is payday and that's a good thing because I am always broke.

Thursday is, for a lot of people, the day to go grocery shopping to stock up on goodies for the upcoming weekend. THINK CHOCOLATE!

So with all the positive things I have listed about Thursday I decided to dedicate today's blog to it.

THURSDAY ON THE INTERNET
It never ceases to amaze me what comes up when you type a single word into the search engine line of the Internet. It seems I am not the only one in cyberspace who truly appreciates "Thursdays". When I entered the word "thursday" in Googles' search engine "458,000,000" hits came up!!! The following are just a few bits and bytes of what I found in my quest for info.

LOOK IT UP AND SEE WHAT THEY HAVE TO SAY.
I got the following information from:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/main_page
Pronunciation: \ˈthərz-dē, -(Thurs·dayˌ)dā
Function: noun
Etymology:Middle English, from Old English thursdæg, from Old Norse thōrsdagr; akin to Old English thunresdæg, Thursday,
Old Norse Thōrr Thor,
Old English thunor, thunder
Date: before 12th century: the fifth day of the week.

How Thursday Got Its Name.........Why Not Louella, Ralph or Lois???
Basically what it boils down to is that Thursday
was named after the Norse God of Thunder, "Thor."

To be fair to any naysayers who like to think of their
Thursday as half finished rather than half unfinished,
I must show the other side of the calendar.

BLACK THURSDAY
Black Thursday refers to October 24, 1929 when stock
prices on the New York Stock Exchange fell sharply with
record volume of nearly 13 million shares.
Five days later the market crashed on volume of
over 16 million shares, a level not to be surpassed
for 39 years. In popular imagery, the crash has come
to mark the beginning of the Great Depression.

THURSDAY in RELIGION
HINDUISM: In the Hindu religion, Thursday is Guruvaar, from Guru,
the Sanskrit name for Jupiter, the largest of planets.
Guruvaar fasting is very common throughout India for
various holy/religious reasons. The Urdu (language spoken in India)
name for Thursday is Jumeraat (eve of Friday).

ISLAM: In Islam Thursdays are considered auspicious days for fasting.

JUDAISM: Thursdays are considered auspicious days for
fasting for those who practice Judaism also. In Judaism the
Torah is read in public on Thursday mornings and special
penitential prayers are said on Thursday, unless there is
a special occasion for happiness which cancels them.

CHRISTIANITY: In the Christian tradition, Maundy Thursday,
is the Thursday before Easter. It is the day on which the Last Supper
occurred. Jesus washed his disciples feet that day and was arrested
and put to death on the next day, Good Friday.
The practise of foot washing continues throughout the world in Catholic
churches on Maundy Thursday.
Ascension Thursday is 40 days after Easter, when Christ ascended into Heaven.

EASTERN ORTHODOX: In the Eastern Orthodox Church, Thursdays are
dedicated to the Apostles and Saint Nicholas. The Octoechos contains hymns
on these themes, arranged in an eight-week cycle, that are chanted on
Thursdays throughout the year.

QUAKERS: Quakers traditionally refer to Thursday as "Fifth Day"
eschewing the pagan origin of the English name "Thursday".
The name of the day is also called by words meaning "fifth day" in
Icelandic, Modern Greek, Portuguese and modern Semitic languages.
